Still, it was fewer than the average number of complaints filed with the city.

At a Human Rights Commission meeting Monday. Sept. 14, Worcester Police said that there had been 53 complaints made against officers in 2019, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. There were 44 in 2018. Over the past seven years, the department averages about 70 complaints per year.

Only one of the complaints was filed by a police officer, the rest were from citizens.

The areas with the most complaints against officers were downtown, Belmont Hill, and Main South (South Worcester).

There were 24 accusations of unnecessary use of force, but police noted that those complaints were out of 141,883 total incidents police responded to in 2019.
